Dr. James Michael Bennett
J. Michael Bennett, M.D. is a Board Certified and CAQ Certified orthopedic surgeon specialized in sports medicine, arthroscopy, and general orthopedic surgery with a special interest in disorders of the shoulder, elbow, and knee.
Dr. Bennett is a native of Houston, Texas, and a graduate of Episcopal High School. In 1993 he graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a minor in Zoology. In 1999 he graduated with a Medical Doctorate from the University of Louisville School of Medicine in Louisville, Kentucky. In 2000, Dr. Bennett returned to Texas to complete a year of General Surgery Internship at Baylor College of Medicine followed by an Orthopedic Surgery Residency at the same institution, which he completed in 2004. During residency, Dr. Bennett was honored by his fellow residents with the Baylor Department of Orthopedic Surgery Award for Excellence in Resident Teaching.
Following residency, Dr. Bennett completed a Sports Medicine, Shoulder and Elbow Fellowship at UHZ Sports Medicine Institute at the University of Miami. While in Florida, he served as assistant team physician to the University of Miami Hurricanes, the Florida International University Golden Panthers, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, in addition to team physician for the Dade County Independent School District.
Throughout his residency and fellowship Dr. Bennett gained a vast amount of experience in covering a variety of sports including football, soccer, basketball, baseball, and lacrosse. He currently serves as a team physician for Texas Southern University and the Houston Independent School District. Dr. Bennett has a particular interest in arthroscopic and open treatment of shoulder, elbow, and knee disorders as well as cartilage repair and restoration.
Dr. Bennett has been involved in orthopedic research, and has a number of presentations and publications to his credit, with several papers pending publication. He continues to participate in ongoing research, and is a member of the following societies:

Breland Physical Therapy & Sports Rehab Clinic
BPTSC was established in 1976. Founded by William Breland, Board Certified Clinical Specialist in Sports Physical Therapy. We have provided evaluative, treatment, preventative, and performance enhancement services to thousands of athletes of all ages. In 1979 we developed one of the first regional high school/JR high multidisciplinary sports medicine programs in the United States. We eventually provided services to over 40 schools.
The Breland practice currently includes three outpatient offices and two full service health clubs. William Breland will soon be confirmed for the third time as a Clinical Specialist in Sports Physical Therapy. He directs physical therapy/athletic training services for Burkburnett ISD athletic teams and avails himself to evaluate and provide expert treatment for competing/weekend athletes of all sports and all ages regardless of ability to pay.
BPTSC began summer strength and conditioning programs in 1985. Athlete development and sport performance training is now provided year round at Breland facilities.
Breland willingly speaks and provides information to: high school, Jr. high, and youth program coaches on topics relating to injury prevention and management. He has been a member of the YMCA Board of Directors, sponsor of activities for members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America and President of the Adult Chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He personally coached young athletes for 16 years.
In addition to his clinical practice and local volunteer work, Breland speaks nationwide to medical and exercise professionals to educate them in the screening, evaluation, and technically correct training system he developed for golf and how it can apply to all sports.

Carondelet Orthopaedic Surgeons, PA is a group of six orthopaedic surgeons and one physiatrist. Children's Hospital Boston's Division of Sports Medicine is a world-renowned sports medicine research facility with leaders in the prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of pediatric, adolescent and adult sports and dance related injuries. It was the first dedicated pediatric sports medicine clinic in the United States established in 1974. at Columbia University offers treatment for a wide spectrum of shoulder, elbow, knee, and hip abnormalities. Procedures are tailored to address conditions ranging from common problems such as meniscal and ACL tears, tennis elbow and shoulder and hip impingement to the complex reconstructions for arthritis, fractures, instability and rotator cuff tears.
Dr. Christopher Ahmad
Dr. Ahmad serves as the Chief of Adolescent and Pediatric Sports Medicine and as the Director of Biomechanics Research at the Center for Orthopaedic Research. He has authored more than 100 articles and book chapters related to shoulder, elbow and sports medicine and has given greater than 100 lectures nationally, and internationally. He is the author of the textbook Minimally Invasive Shoulder and Elbow Surgery. He has ongoing research in the areas of biomechanics of the elbow, ACL injury prevention and screening, and surgical techniques for rotator cuff repair.
Dr. Ahmad specializes in shoulder instability and labral tears, rotator cuff pathology, ACL injuries, Tommy John surgery, and advanced arthroscopic surgical techniques for sports related injuries of the knee, shoulder and elbow. Dr. Ahmad has received many awards for outstanding research in the field of sports medicine.
Dr. Louis U. Bigliani
Dr. Bigliani is the Frank E. Stinchfield Professor and Chairman of Orthopaedic Surgery at Columbia University and the Director of the Orthopaedic Surgery Service, NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center. Dr. Bigliani is also the Chief of the Center for Shoulder, Elbow and Sports Medicine at Columbia University and is a nationally and internationally recognized expert in shoulder surgery.
Dr. Bigliani is recognized as a leader and innovator in his field and lectures around the world. Dr. Bigliani, the 9th Director of the New York Orthopaedic Hospital--one of the oldest orthopaedic hospitals in the United States , is the 3rd NYOH Director to become AOA President.
Edwin R. Cadet, M.D.
Dr. Cadet is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Orthopaedic Surgery at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and an Assistant Attending Orthopaedic Surgeon at New York-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center. Dr. Cadet completed his orthopaedic surgery residency training at The New York Orthopaedic Hospital at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, where he served as one of the administrative chief residents in 2008. In 2009, Dr. Cadet completed a fellowship in shoulder and sports medicine at the Hospital for Special Surgery, under the direction of Drs. Scott Rodeo and David Altchek. During his fellowship, Dr. Cadet spent dedicated time learning hip arthroscopy under the direction of Dr. Bryan Kelly. In addition, Dr. Cadet assisted with the medical care for NCAA Division I collegiate and professional teams during his fellowship, including the Red Storm of St. John's University and the New York Knicks.
Dr. Cadet specializes in arthroscopic and open techniques to address disorders affecting the shoulder, knee, hip and elbow. His particular clinical interests include rotator cuff and labral tears, shoulder instability (e.g. shoulder dislocations), elbow injuries, shoulder osteoarthritis, knee ligament injuries (e.g., anterior cruciate ligament (ACL)), athletic hip disorders (e.g., labral tears and femoroacetabular impingement), and cartilage disorders.
Dr. William Levine
Dr. Levine completed a shoulder fellowship under Dr. Louis Bigliani, and also completed a Sports Medicine Fellowship at the University of Maryland. He joined the department in 1998 and is the Residency Program Director. He serves as Director of the Arthroscopy Laboratory, Director of Sports Medicine, Assistant Director for the Center for Shoulder, Elbow and Sports Medicine, and is the Head Team Physician for Columbia University. He is an active member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons and the American Orthopaedic Association. He is also recognized as a 'Top Doctor: Sports Medicine" in Castle Connolly Medical Ltd and New York Magazine.
At Columbia, Dr. Levine specializes in shoulder and elbow surgery, sports medicine and arthroscopy of all joints, and arthroscopic and reconstructive knee surgery.

Since many people wonder why I choose to come to Ghana, I thought I would take a moment to tell my story, explain my passions, and give insight to my expertise. My journey to Ghana began during the 2006 FIFA World Cup. I will never forget sitting in a local restaurant, feeling the excitement as Ghana beat the United States. Even though my country lost, I was thoroughly impressed by the pride and spirit of the ghanaians as they rejoiced over their victory.
When I returned to the USA, I began to research Ghanaian athleticism, everything from boxing to football. There were so many trendsetters from Tony Baffoe to Joshua Clottey to Vida Anim. As a healthcare professional, I noticed another trend of Ghanaian athletes leaving Ghana to receive treatment for their injuries, usually in the UK or the US.
That is my inspiration for moving to Africa. Athletes should be able to receive quality care in their own country. The same health care options that are available in America, England, and France, should be available in the various African countries. The reality is that it is not. Thus, my mission is to limit the gap of what individuals receive here versus the US and UK.
I have over 6 years experience working with athletes of all calibers, from professional, to college level, to adolescent. My background is an eclectic mixture of chiropractic, extremity adjusting, neurological muscular therapy, and injury rehabilitation. I have been successful in increasing performance level and decreasing injury, at a cost effective rate, in a relatively short period of time which helps individuals safely return to their sport. In addition, by be the first and only board recognized practitioner certified in Kinesio Tape (CKTP) and Chiropractic Extremities (CCEP) on the continent of Africa, my patients are receiving cutting edge treatments that were once only available in the UK and United States.
One of my specialities is Neurological Muscular Therapy which is both preventative and therapeutic. It is based off the detection and release of trigger points within muscles. Trigger points are irritable spots in muscles and/or fascia that may cause local or radiating pain. I have utilized NMT to prepare athletes for training and competition to treat and/or aid in the prevention of injuries. Other benefits include improvement of flexibility, range of motion, mental clarity, and performance. It has also been proven successful in the treatment of common athletic conditions such as sciatica, tennis elbow, migraines, headaches, back pain, chondromalacia patella, plantar fasciitis, and more.
It is an honor, a blessing, and a dream fulfilled to have my love for sports, health, and Africa intertwined. Please know that I LOVE what I do. I love to help people overcome their afflictions; rather it is a 20 year old knee injury or low back pain due to a recent accident. Chad Hanson, M.D. was trained at the University of Nebraska, University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, and the Steadman Clinic Sports Medicine Fellowship. Elite Sports Medicine
The Elite Sports Medicine team was founded in February 2006, at the Connecticut Children's Medical Center as the inspiration of Drs. Len Banco, Jeff Thomson and others who realized the increasing importance of sports medicine care in the adolescent and young adults of today. The program is built on the premise that sports injuries and rehabilitation are by necessity multidisciplinary and that in many instances the injuries in young student-athletes can be prevented.
The center cares primarily for student-athletes between the ages of 10 and 30 with specialist care offered in operative and non-operative sports injury care, nutrition, sports psychology, physical training and conditioning, and other disciplines as appropriate. Dr. David Geier
Dr. Geier is an orthopaedic surgeon and the Director of MUSC Sports Medicine. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Wake Forest University. After completing medical school at the Medical University of South Carolina, he completed an orthopaedic surgery residency at the world-famous Campbell Clinic in Memphis, Tennessee. He completed an orthopaedic sports medicine fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis. He returned to Charleston in 2005 and created the MUSC Sports Medicine program.

Mission:
PROeX TIME OUT Sports Safety and Injury Prevention Program is designed to provide the most current information on issues pertaining to sports safety and injury prevention for youth athletes 8-14 years of age. Teaming up with the Tazewell County Health Department allows the PROeX Sports Medicine Team to develop orthopedic screening programs conducted by Certified Athletic Trainers, host informational forums, and provide the most current and professional information through special programming in Tazewell County at ZERO cost to athletes, parents, coaches, schools and sporting organizations. This program is initially funded by an ICAHN Grant (Illinois Critical Access Hospital Network) and is a public service.
Goals of TIME OUT:
- • Educate the public on what an athletic trainer is and the level of qualifications they possess. Athletic trainers are the first line of care on the playing field and work in clinics providing education and sports rehabilitation.
- • Parents need to know who is taking care of their athlete in the schools and on the sidelines.
- • Educate the public in regards to injury identification, the proper initial and follow-up care, and ways to help prevent chronic overuse injuries at a young age.
- • Educate the public on strength and conditioning of a young athlete, and how to develop athleticism through proper, age based exercise.
- • Educate the public on the most current information pertaining to sports medicine.
- • Address any concerns or trends that physicians and athletic trainers are seeing in schools and athletic programs that pertain to the health and well-being of the athlete.
- • Provide explanations of complicated topics of concern such as concussions, heat illness, diabetes, sickle cell, skin condition, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, etc...

There are many organized sports to choose from. There are approximately 7.5 million plus athletes in the US (according to the Centers for Disease Control). The youth sports injuries are on the rise towards epidemic proportions. The PROeX TIME OUT Team is taking an active approach in order to educate and give parents, athletes, coaches and organizations the information they need in order to make more efficient decisions when comes to their athletes.

Dr. Steven Gorin is a board certified Orthopaedic Surgeon located in Aventura, FL which lies in the middle of Miami and Fort Lauderdale.
He performed a Fellowship in Sports Medicine in Philadelphia under the supervision of Dr. Art Bartolozzi, Dr. Craig Morgan and Dr. Larry Miller. During that time he took care of teams which included Rowan University's athletic program, the Philadelphia Kixx indoor soccer team and many local athletes.
Dr. Gorin did his medical schooling at Nova-Southeastern University's College of Osteopathic Medicine, an internship at Botsford General Hospital in Farmington Hills, MI and then his orthopaedic surgery residency with OSI in Kansas City, MO.
Prior to medical school and subsequent training, Dr. Gorin received a Masters degree in Sports Medicine at the University of Miami. There he worked directly with the football and women's track team. This gave him a great deal of knowledge in understanding the athlete's body. His undergraduate studies began at Boston University, with a degree in Human Physiology.

A native of Western New York, Dr. Gambacorta is the Medical Director of the Sports Medicine Division at Women and Children's Hospital of Buffalo. He graduated cum laude from SUNY at Buffalo during which he received a Bachelor of Arts degree. He subsequently earned his Master of Science degree at Roswell Park Cancer Institute from SUNY at Buffalo. Dr. Gambacorta earned his Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine and his internship and orthopedic surgery residency training at South Pointe Hospital, Cleveland Clinic Healthcare System.
Dr. Gambacorta completed an ACGME accredited Sports Medicine Fellowship at the Children's Hospital Boston through Harvard Medical School. There he treated all sports related injuries in patients from pediatric to adult with extensive practice in advanced surgical techniques in hip arthroscopy, a minimally invasive approach to treat a number of painful problems including tears of the labrum, cartilage damage, loose bodies, and femoral acetabular impingement (FAI).
He is a member of several organizations, including the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery, and the American Osteopathic Association of Orthopedics. Dr. Longobardi is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine and athletic injuries. Since 1996, he has been in a private practice, with offices at NYU Medical Center and in Hackensack, NJ. He has authored various articles and presentations related to the shoulder. He has been active teaching at NYU School of Medicine, and earned the title of Assistant Professor of Clinical Orthopaedic Surgery. He has been a Faculty Mentor to the students of NYU School of Medicine for their Professionalism course, as well as, being an active member of the Admissions Committee for NYU School of Medicine. Through years of dedicated service and commitment to education, in May, 2009, he was named a member of NYU School of Medicine's Board of Governors. At his alma mater, Fordham University, he participates as a member of the Dean's Pre-Health Advisory Board. Currently, he collaborates with Bergen Academies High School in Hackensack, New Jersey mentoring students with a focus and interest in medicine.
Dr. Longobardi has had the privilege of care of numerous collegiate and professional sports teams. His experience ranges from being an assistant team physician with the NY Islanders Hockey Team, University of Tennessee athletic teams, Minor League (AA) Baseball and Hockey Teams (ECHL), to Team Physician for the NY-NJ MetroStars (MLS), and then as a Assistant Team Physician/Consultant with the Florida Marlins Baseball Team (MLB)(The 2003 World Series Champions). Most recently, Dr. Longobardi served as the Team Physician for the 2009 New Jersey-Northeast High School All-Star Classic Football Game.
Dr. Longobardi is active in numerous professional organizations including a Fellow of AAOS, AANA, ISAKOS, ACSM and AOSSM, where he is the delegate-elect for the State of New Jersey. In 2004, he was elected the first President and co-founder of Metropolitan Surgery Center in Hackensack, NJ. He currently is the Medical Director for that same Center.

While in Indianapolis, he provided care to athletes at various levels, including students from Indiana University, Butler University, University of Indianapolis, as well as the NFL Indianapolis Colts.
In addition to his Sports Medicine fellowship, Dr. Rawal received fellowship training in advanced cartilage restoration techniques at the Cartilage Restoration Center of Indiana. His experiences encompassed cutting edge treatment and techniques in meniscus transplant, osteochondral allograft, and autologous chondrocyte implantation (ACI).

Thomas Jonathan Wall, M.D., Ph.D. is board-certified in both Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine. He was recently nominated by his peers as Phoenix Magazine’s Top Doc in Sports Medicine. He is the founder of the Athletic Institute of medicine in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Dr. Wall is one of a few orthopaedic physicians to have both a M.D. and a Ph.D. in Nueromuscular Physiology - the study of how the body functions. This advanced training often allows Dr. Wall to resolve sports medicine injuries and orthopaedic problems without the use of surgery.
