It is easy to forget that even the youngest of athletes may not speak up when they are feeling pain. Parents and coaches should keep this in mind and look for potential signs of injury during and after practices and games. Some signs an athlete may be injured:
1) Not putting weight on a certain body part or favor one side of the body over the other
2) Appearing to be in pain when using a particular body part
3) Inability to sleep
4) Shortness of breath or trouble breathing during activity
5) Headaches during or after activity
6) Showing signs of stiffness in joints or muscles
7) Dizziness or lightheadedness
8) Difficulty sitting and/or climbing stairs
9) Inability to feel fingers or toes
10) Experiencing unusual weakness
Playing through these symptoms can potentially make injuries worse and end up shortening a young athlete's season.
